The Valley of the Remsheg is about six of the founding families that settled in Wallace and the surrounding areas. In the
beginning of the book the author, Harry R. Brown, describes living in the rural area, the hard work,
the economy of sharing, of simple pleasures and tragedy of an era that is gone forever.
Chapter 2 covers agriculture.
Chapter 3 covers Mills, Arts and Crafts.
Chapter 4 is on the Religious and Social life.
Chapter 5 covers Transportation and Communication.
Chapter 6 is Schools.
Chapter 7 is Old Cellars and Homesites.
The rest of the 557 pages is devoted to the genealogy of
the Browns, Peers, Tuttles, McKims, Wells and Forshners.
This is the 3rd edition of the
book and it is bound with a hard cover. Harry Brown worked on the second edition but he did not live to see it published again by the
North Cumberland Historical Society. Now in 2007 his daughter, Betty Brown, has
updated the book once more and the N. C. H. S. has again had it published.
