Tom Rawls (1913 – 1998)
Tom was born in England and moved to Canada with his wife Pearl and their three children in 1955 to sell Hot Stamping
Machines for Massey Sealy of England. When the machines did no sell very quickly
he set one up in his basement in Waterloo, Ontario and started making Hot Stamped plaques and name tags.
In 1969 he made the first event badge for the Wiarton
Willie festival and this led to his newly formed company Thomas Hot Stamping making many other Badges for
events across Canada including K.W. Oktoberfest. He also made
Chamber of Commerce Plaques and Tennis Tags. Click on the above links to see examples
of his work..
Thomas Hot Stamping continues
to exist as a smaller operation concentrating on Tennis Tags and run by his
daughter & son-in-law Diana & Walter (Wally) Blundon
who operate the Hot Stamping business from their home overlooking Georgian Bay. To learn more about Thomas Hot Stamping or Tennis
Tags contact Diana or Wally here.
Tom was an avid tennis
player, photographer and artist. He played Tennis almost every day until
shortly before his death and some of his photographs were “shown”, many of them
are sill on display at various family members homes and at his former cottage
in Wiarton.
