The Harbour Pictured above is the seaside community of St. Peter's Harbour. Bordered by magnificent sand dunes, the Harbour is home to about 30 cottages. And although Sandy Shores was not captured in the above picture it is located just outside the left frame. Sharing the Harbour with the cottagers is an assortment of wildlife, eagles, osprey, plovers, mink, raccoons, coyotes, to name a few. Although rare, the occasional seal has been known to visit the beach. In the spring the area is in bloom with lupins and as the wetlands come alive, so do the wild roses, lily pads and cranberries. But if you don't want to be too secluded and tranquility, beauty and the beach isn't enough, "No Worries"! Rest assured-there is lots to do near by! |

Red Head Wharf:
Red Head Wharf, pictured to the left and right, is only a 5 minute drive. Shown here are
the fruits of a day at sea, lobster fishing. On the North Shore Lobster season runs from
May 1st to July 1st, but it is always available, just fished from a different shore. If you
are adventurous talk to the local fishermen about riding along (only possible until the end of June).
Be prepared though, the boat leaves at the crack of dawn and once at sea, there is no turning back!
Or follow our lead and arrive at the wharf around 11.00 a.m. to purchase dinner direct.
After July 1st visit the fish market in St. Peter's Bay or Jonesy's for your lobster.
Red Head also offers daily Deep Sea fishing. Drop your line from a converted Lobster boat or simply
enjoy the ride. You might even catch a glimpse of a Minke whale. Trips are reasonably priced ($20 -$30),
approx. 2-3 hours, and child friendly. But if it's Tuna you want, expect to pay significantly more,
that is unless you land a big one! Boats leave from North Lake and Souris, both 30 minutes away.
Red Head is also home to a local Mussel Farm. Drop in, make you purchase and watch as the mussels come off the line.
Mussels do not get any fresher! Then the next time you order mussels at home look to see where they are from
- it is probably Morell! | |
Village of Morell and St.Peter's Bay Located only 5 minutes from the Harbour is the village of Morell. Here you will find many amenities; grocery store, bakery, laundry, liquor/beer, Pizza outlet, Jonesy's Restaurant,(check out the take out live lobster), pharmacy, bank, video rentals, gas station, post office and kayak rentals! Also located in town is access to the Confederation trail, a provincial trail great for hiking or biking. Or venture a little farther ( 10 min. east) and you arrive in St. Peter's Bay, home to Greenwhich National Park. The Park has an interactive Interpretation Centre and another spectacular beach (there is an entrance fee though). Try the restaurants, explore the shops or pick up some seafood at the local fish store.! |

National Park Beaches:
National Park Beaches; Stanhope, Brackley, Rustico and Cavendish are all within 45 minutes.
Some of the Parks have life guards, washrooms, playgrounds, kiosk and/or
arranged activities, but note there is an entrance fee. In addition to the beach
Cavendish offers amusement parks, souvenir shopping, mini golf and the Anne of Green Gables Homestead.
Then there is Basin Head, just past Souris. Yes another beach, this one famous for its
‘Singing Sands’. Really, on a hot day the sand sings, just walk on it!
Basin Head is a Provincial Park so there is no entrance fee. It has a children's play area, wash rooms, take out
food and a small museum. At low tide see if you can find a sand dollar. Cavendish Beach |
