Parish History

Oct. 24, 1885 Rev. John Shaw was placed in charge of the newly formed parish  of St. John the Baptist. Land was purchased and subsequently a short time after his arrival a church, a glebe and convent was built.

The convent which housed the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame was opened Aug. 23, 1887.  The Church, although completed in 1886,  was not dedicated until Nov. 6, 1887.
