George Barnes lived in a house "under the shaddow of Pembroke Castle". He was one of four brothers (and two sisters), most of whom rose to good positions in the navy, one, it is said, became the first Director of the Dockyards with the rank of Rear- Admiral. (from family notes) I can find no evedence to support this statement, this George lived in Pembroke Dock some miles from the castle.

Hanna Lepers father, so the story goes, was the son of a Yorkshire farmer and pressed ganged into the navy. It is a fact that he fought at the battle of Trafalgar and had the tail of his coat shot off!

He loved the sea and on leaving the Royal Navy his father bought him his own ship and as was the custom in those days his wife, the former Miss Waldron (also from Yorkshire) accompanied him on his voyages.
