Clare Organization Representing Disabilities

Founded in 1994 as a cross-disability organization for persons with disabilities (PWDs) of the Municipality of Clare in Digby County, Nova Scotia.

Our constitution notes that our membership be at least 51% PWDs and being an advisory organization.

Our role in our community consists primarily of advocating for the individual PWDs in our community, province and nationally, while being a source of information for PWDs.

We are an affiliate of the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities (NS LEO) , and through them affiliated with the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) .

Since 1994:

We have improved the compliance of our building code in regard to disabled accessibility.

Assisted the committee that fundraised $10,000.00 to build a wheelchair ramp at the Meteghan church.

Fundraised for and built a wheelchair deck at the Meteghan beach.

Built up a vast library of information and contacts for our community.

We also own and operate Le Transport de Clare, an alternative transportation service in Clare.
